The movie tonight is a documentary called Unknown Cave of Bones. The documentary follows paleoanthropologist, Lee Berger, as he and his colleagues explore the Rising Star cave system near Johannesburg, South Africa. The cave is exceedingly difficult to explore because to reach their destination, the Dinaledi chamber, they have to squeeze through a chute that is 19 cm wide. The payoff, however, made the effort worthwhile because they found a wealth of bones of a previously undiscovered hominin species which they named Homo naledi. Berger's interpretation of the patterns and conditions in which they found some of the bones is quite fascinating and controversial.
