Book Blog for the RMA Book Club

The RMA Book Club is very democratic about choosing books. When we are near the end of the list of chosen books, everyone is invited to suggest books by a specific deadline. Then all members vote on 12 books for the next 12 months. The books with the most votes are placed on the reading list. But why do individuals suggest certain books? That is where the Book Blog comes in. Each month, we invite the person who suggested that book to write a short paragraph about why they made their selection. Janalee recommended the book for February and here is her reasoning.

This month we are reading Stolen Focus: Why you can't pay attention - and how to think deeply again," by Johann Hari. I chose this book for two reasons: we read one of his previous books in Book club, Chasing the Scream," and I found it to be fascinating and very well researched; and because the topic is so timely in a world full of sound-bites and memes. In the book, Hari travels around the world interviewing experts on matters related to focus, from the speed of media to sleep, the effect of technology, to how our diets influence focus.
